| Fear of Disapproval
Defined Fear of disapproval results from self doubts about one’s own competence or likability such that the evaluations of others are assumed to be negative. Others’ evaluations are feared because it might confirm one’s own doubts about his or her self worth. Diminished self worth and increased self doubt inaugurates lowered self efficacy, or the confidence to get things done or form positive relationships. Thus fear of disapproval is the pain associated with true self revelation. The negative assumption is that if the true self is revealed, it will evoke disapproval. The result oftentimes is avoidance of others and self inhibition in vocal interaction with others. Overcoming Fear of Disapproval |
