Self Defeating Inhibitions Defined
Self defeating inhibitions refer to all
those factors that tend to deter, depress or sabotage behaviors,
relationships
or aspirations.
The inhibiting agents may include fear, negative projections of how
one’s expressions will be received, doubt, and lack of self
confidence or poor self esteem. The results for the individual are
diminished achievements and a self criticalness that tends to perpetuate
personal defeat. Overcoming Self defeating inhibitions is a major
pathway to greater capacity to act in different situations and to
greater self respect. Learning to recognize one’s own inhibitions
and the damage they do to enhancing or leveraging life opportunities
is an important first step towards personal change.
