Writer's Block Defined

Writer’s block refers to the unwillingness to put thoughts into written words often caused by conflicting feelings. We want the project done quickly but we want it to be perfect. We know our subject matter but we fear we must measure up to the reader’s expectations. Sometimes the block is caused by inward phobias, other times by external stress which is enough to paralyze even the strongest individual. No matter what the block, or what the conflict, the best solution is toe secure feedback from others to gain the necessary confidence to proceed. Feedback permits more mature judgments as to the strengths and weaknesses of the writing and hence allows one to begin the all important, and easier, process of revision and improvement.
